Anatomical illustration of the human heart

Sound familiar?

Your exam is in 6 days. You've re-read the same 40 pages twice. Nothing sticks.

The cardiac system doesn't need more notes. It needs the right notes — pressure-tested against real exam questions, boiled down to the 20% that actually gets tested. That's what's on this page.

What's inside

Everything high-yield. Nothing filler.

  • Full heart anatomy — labeled.

Chambers, valves, coronary arteries. See it once, remember it forever.

  • The cardiac cycle, decoded.

Systole, diastole, and the pressure changes that make sense of every murmur.

  • EKG waves you'll actually be tested on.

P, QRS, T, PR, ST — what they mean, what breaks them, and how to spot it fast.

  • Blood flow, step-by-step.

Vena cava → body. Follow the exact path in 10 seconds flat.

  • Normal values worth memorizing.

HR, BP, stroke volume, cardiac output, ejection fraction — the numbers professors love asking.

  • Clinical correlates that come up on exams.

MI, CHF, arrhythmias, hypertension — the one-line rules to nail them.

Peek inside

A few highlights from the sheet

Real snippets — not marketing fluff. This is what actually lands in your inbox.

EKG waves

P wave
Atrial depolarization
QRS
Ventricular depolarization
T wave
Ventricular repolarization
PR interval
120–200 ms

Numbers to memorize

Heart rate60–100 bpm
Blood pressure120/80 mmHg
Stroke volume70 mL
Cardiac output4–8 L/min
Ejection fraction55–70%

Blood flow — 10 seconds

  1. 1Vena cava
  2. 2Right atrium → tricuspid
  3. 3Right ventricle → pulmonic
  4. 4Pulmonary arteries → lungs
  5. 5Pulmonary veins → left atrium
  6. 6Mitral → left ventricle
  7. 7Aortic valve → aorta → body

Clinical correlate — MI

Classic presentation

Crushing substernal chest pain, radiates to left arm/jaw, diaphoresis, nausea.

EKG clue

ST elevation in contiguous leads = STEMI. Reciprocal depression in opposite leads.

Labs

Troponin ↑ (peaks 24h, stays 7–10d). CK-MB rises 4–6h.

First-line Rx

MONA — Morphine, Oxygen (if hypoxic), Nitrates, Aspirin.

Murmur cheat

Aortic stenosis
Systolic, crescendo-decrescendo, radiates to carotids.
Mitral regurgitation
Holosystolic, radiates to axilla.
Aortic regurgitation
Early diastolic, blowing, at LSB.
